Some of you have prayed and prayed about a situation – a mountain. It's good. You should pray, but there comes a time when you must speak to it. I know you pray about your circumstances, but do you speak to them? Praying is great, but don't stop there. Go one more level and speak to your mountain. Your speaking to it can make it disappear.
Scriptures: James 3:9-10, 1 Peter 3:10, James 3:4-5, Genesis 48:9, 16, Genesis 27:4, 12, 19, 28, 28, 29, 33, Numbers 6:22-26
Today I want to talk about "Speak to Your Mountains." We have been talking about the Power of Words and how we need to be very careful concerning what we speak.
(Amplified) Proverbs 18:20 A man's [person's] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it[for death or life].
This verse depicts how words are like seeds producing fruit. We plant them into the spiritual realm when we speak and they begin to grow. If we speak negatively, they will produce negative fruit and we will have a negative life. If we speak positively, they will produce positive fruit and we will enjoy a positive life. The Bible says we will each eat the life we speak with our words.
WORDS ARE NOT ONLY SOUNDS. Words enter into the unseen spiritual dimension.
John 6:63... the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Jesus said the words he spoke were spirit and life. His words were spiritual and brought life. Our words are spiritual and bring life or spiritual and bring death. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Words, though unseen, produce something seen and experienced.
THE TIMES WE MUST BE THE MOST CAREFUL ABOUT OUR WORDS ARE WHEN WE FACE LIFE'S OBSTACLES. It is during times of adversity and hardships and trouble we are most likely to speak negatively. Anyone can be positive and speak well when things are going their way and there are no obstacles or problems. But how do we respond in tough times?
A preacher was trying to start his pull-start lawn mower when a young boy walked by and said, "Preacher, you have to cuss at those things to get them to run. That's what my dad does." "Son," the preacher said, "I haven't cussed in a long, long time." The boy said, "Well, keep pulling that rope and it'll come back to you."
We men can relate. What you say during the times of your difficulties will determine what your obstacle does and how long it stays there.
Mark 11:23 "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
What we say has an affect upon our obstacles. We can make an obstacle in life disappear by speaking to it. We must learn about speaking to our mountains.
NOTICE JESUS COMBINED PRAYER AND BELIEVING WITH SPEAKING TO THE OBSTACLE.
CHALLENGES AND DIFFICULTIES ARE A PART OF LIFE. No one is immune to trouble. At those times the enemy (flesh or devil) will come to you and tell you how you are the only one having a difficult time. He will say, "God must not love you." "You are the only person who is this lonely." He says, "You are the only one in such debt and your case is hopeless." "God is punishing you." We begin listening to junk and we give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.
The enemy will use difficulties to make us lose hope and lose faith. He will use mountains to block our vision of our futures. He wants you to get upset with people and get upset with God. He wants you to stop coming to church. He wants you to stop giving to the kingdom. If he can do this then he has won. He has kept you from experiencing all God has for you with a simple mountain.
We need to learn to view our obstacles as opportunities to go to a higher level of life. No one in the Bible ever faced an obstacle and did not advance if they handled it correctly.
Mark 4:35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side."
Jesus said, "Let's go to the other side." There are some more things I want to show you. There is more for you to experience in life. There are more people and more opportunities. Then Jesus went and took a nap as they began to go. Not very far into the journey, they ran into a hurricane.
Mark 4:37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.
They were in God's perfect will. Jesus was in the boat with them. They had done nothing wrong to cause the hurricane. Jesus loved every one of them. God was not mad at them or punishing them. However, they were facing a furious obstacle.
This was a furious storm. Waves brought water into the boat. Now, this is not fun. It's frightening. The boat was going to go down. Think about this. Those disciples were in God's perfect will. Jesus was with them. Nonetheless, a furious situation was taking place.
WE EXPERIENCE STORMS EVERY TIME GOD WANTS TO TAKE US TO A NEW LEVEL. The enemy will not just sit back and allow God to promote you and take you to a new level of life without opposition. When we make the decision to get in the boat and go to the other side and go all out with Jesus, we will all face adversities, troubles, and storms.
We must remember when the enemy fights us the hardest is when God has something more in store for us.
SOME OF YOU TODAY ARE EXACTLY WHERE THOSE DISCIPLES WERE. You really want to go to a new level in life, but you are in the middle of a furious storm. Something seemingly uncontrollable has come against you. Your marriage is sinking. Or, your finances are sinking. Or, your job is sinking. Or, your child is about to sink. You are thinking, "Where did I miss God?" "What did I do so wrong God is punishing me?" "Maybe I should just give up and sink, or turn around and go back." Now is not the time to give up. Now is the time to backfire the thing in the devils face. God will reward your persistence. Anybody can quit. Anybody can sink. Anybody can become negative. Anybody can go back. Jesus is looking for some disciples who will press on and get to the other side. Don't get negative. God is trying to promote you.
Where is God trying to take you today? Where does he want you to go? Remember, you will always have obstacles. Learn to fight it through.
I HEARD JOEL OSTEEN SAY his dad, John Osteen would quote Edwin Markham.
"Great it is to believe the dream
When we stand in youth by the starry stream;
But a greater thing is to fight life through
And say at the end,
'The dream was true.'"
God gives us all dreams to succeed at something. But it won't come true unless we fight it through. Don't falter in a crisis.
Proverbs 24:10 If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength!
(GNT) Proverbs 24:10 If you are weak in a crisis, you are weak indeed.
Our strengths are measured by the obstacles we face. When a person was faced in life with a problem in the scriptures, they advanced every time if they handled the problem God's way. They received all the blessings advancement included. It's just like a job. Every advancement will include new perks and better benefits.
The Apostle Paul had a dream to preach the gospel of the kingdom to the whole earth.
(Amplified) 1 Corinthians 16:9 For a wide door of opportunity for effectual has opened to me and many adversaries.
He had wide doors of opportunity, but not with out adversaries and adversities. With opportunities come adversities and often adversaries. But let's look at it from the positive perspective. With great adversities come great opportunities. With great storms come great rewards.
If we never had tests, we would never have testimonies. There are no great victories unless there are great battles. The whole reason the enemy is bringing you a storm is because he knows you are trying to go to the other side. You are about to experience some new and great things in God.
The disciples faced a furious storm. They woke Jesus and he came to their aid. Let's take note of what he did.
Mark 4:39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
Jesus first rebuked the wind. The Greek word translated rebuked is epitimao (Strong's #2008) pronounced ep-ee-tee-mah'-o. It means to tax with fault, rate, chide, rebuke, reprove, criticize severely; to admonish or charge sharply. It's a strong word conveying one taking a strong position.
I see Jesus at the front of the boat standing in a braced position looking into the furious storm. The wind is blowing his hair. The waves were splashing upon him. In a fighting position, he speaks loudly and with determination. He rebuked the wind.
After rebuking the wind, Jesus spoke to the waves. He said, Quiet! Be still!" Jesus wasn't praying. He spoke sternly and severely to the wind and to the waves.
I am certain Jesus looked foolish and sounded crazy to the disciples, but it became completely calm.
Jesus then turned to his disciples and said something intriguing to me.
Mark 4:40 He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
Jesus spoke to the obstacle. Then he immediately turned and questioned the disciples concerning their faith. Why did Jesus question their faith? What exactly did Jesus want the disciples to do? He obviously expected them to do something, but what? My only answer is he expected them to do what he had just done, i.e. rebuke the wind and speak to the waves. Jesus affected a supernatural dimension with his words.
We may say, "Yes, but this was Jesus, the Son of God." No. He became like you and I. If he did not, then it was not fair for him to question their faith.
The Bible says he stripped himself of his God-like powers and became like you and me.
Philippians 2:7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
Jesus said we could do what he did and even more.
John 14:12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
What I am trying to say is our words have the power to make our obstacles disappear. We understand we cannot be negative, critical and judgmental. We understand we need to pray adding thanksgiving to our petitions. But we need also to speak to our obstacles in the name of Jesus and expect them to disappear. We may look and feel foolish. We may sound crazy, but it will have an affect upon our obstacles.
HOW DOES THE LORD GOD HANDLE TROUBLE AND DARK TIMES? We are made in God's likeness and image. Genesis 1:2 tells of the world being void and darkness covering the earth.
Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep . . .
Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
What did God do? God spoke the solution. God didn't say, "I can't stand this darkness. This darkness is driving me crazy." He didn't call Gabriel and Michael and say, "Come look at this darkness. What in the world am I going to do? Have you ever seen anything so pitiful?" No. God didn't dwell on the problem. He didn't talk about the problem. Instead, he spoke the solution and things changed.
In the same way, you must speak your solution. Speak the Word of the Lord to the darkness. Tell it where you want to go and what you desire to happen.
THINK ABOUT JOSHUA. God put a dream in his heart to conquer the Land of Canaan. He faced an obstacle. The sun was going down and Joshua needed more daylight to conquer his obstacle.
Joshua 10:12 On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel: "O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon."
Joshua 10:13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.
Joshua told the Lord he was going to speak to the sun and the moon. Joshua spoke the solution. The universe stopped turning. If Joshua could speak to the sun and moon, surely you and I can speak to the obstacles we face. Speak to your universe.
WHEN JESUS STOOD BEFORE THE TOMB OF LAZARUS, he prayed. His prayer in itself did not raise Lazarus from the dead. Jesus had to add a necessary part.
John 11:43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"
When Jesus spoke to the obstacle, Lazarus came forth after being dead for four days. In the same way, you can speak to your dead dreams. Pray, but don't stop there. Praying and speaking to the situation go hand in hand.
I LOVE WHAT DAVID DID WHEN HE FACED GOLIATH. David didn't murmur and complain and ask God why he always had such huge problems like lions and bears and now a giant. No. David had a dream in his heart for advancement. He focused on the fight. He set the atmosphere. He didn't focus on the fact Goliath was ten feet tall and he was about five feet tall. He didn't think about Goliath being a trained warrior and he was a shepherd boy. Instead, he magnified and focused on the greatness of his God.
When David walked out to fight with a sling and rocks, Goliath looked him over and sneered and cursed David.
1 Samuel 17:43 He said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his gods
David stood his ground to this mountain of a man and gave it right back to Goliath.
1 Samuel 17:45 David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
1 Samuel 17:46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.
David said I will defeat you. I will cut off your head. I will feed your carcass to the fowls of the air. David didn't think those words. He spoke those words. Those are the kind of words we need to speak in our times of adversity.
Stop complaining about your poverty and finances. Begin speaking to it. Tell it you will prosper. Tell it you will conquer it. Tell it God will supply all my need. Stop complaining about the loved one who is not serving the Lord and begin calling them into the kingdom. Stop complaining how nothing you do ever works and begin saying everything you touch prospers and is successful. You will be healed. Your child will serve the Lord. You can defeat your Goliaths.
THERE IS A MIRACLE IN YOUR MOUTH. You can change your world by changing your words. Learn to speak the correct words and God will take you to a new level of life and success. We can leave a life of mediocrity and enjoy a life of excellence and it will all begin with our mouth. God wants to take us to the other side. There are doors of opportunity for each of us. Speak to your darkness and command light to come. You can stop your universe with your words. You can raise your dead dreams with your words.
How many are going to begin speaking to your mountains? If you are going to speak to some mountains, give the Lord a hand clap and a shout! There is power in your words.
